The development goals of the Troop are consistent with the goals of Scouting America which is to provide a program that builds character, citizenship and develops personal fitness.

CHARTER ORGANIZATION

Troop #213 is chartered by the Summit Masonic Lodge.

Within BSA, Each unit must be chartered by a civic, faith-based, and educational organization to deliver the programs to their youth members, as well as the community at large.

Responsibilities of chartered organizations include:

  1. Providing adequate meeting facilities
  2. Providing quality leadership for the Scouting unit

PURPOSE OF THE TROOP

Whether you have crossed over with your son from Cub Scouts or just joined Scouts BSA, we appreciate your enthusiasm and encourage your participation in the Troop. The three aims of Boy Scouting are character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness. To accomplish these aims, Scouting employs eight methods: the ideals, the Patrol method, the outdoors, advancement, association with adults, personal growth, leadership development, and the uniform.

One of the major differences between Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA is the very important method, leadership development. In order to teach leadership, you have to let the youth lead. To this point Troop #213 operates as a youth led Troop. This means that the Scouts are responsible for defining the program and activities that will be undertaken. The Troop’s adult leaders are here to guide, mentor and teach the boy leaders and then step back and let the youth run the Troop.

Because it is a youth led Troop, at times the meetings and activities may be somewhat disorganized and chaotic. While it can be frustrating to watch, it is important to let the youth lead and at times fail in order to facilitate learning and to improve their organizational and leadership skills.

PATROL METHOD

Patrols are the building blocks of the Scout Troop. A Patrol is a small group of youth who are similar in age, development, and interests. Working together as a team, Patrol members share the responsibility for the Patrol’s success. They gain confidence by serving in positions of Patrol leadership. All Patrol members enjoy the friendship, sense of belonging, and achievements of the Patrol and of each of its members.

Troop #213 meets on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. at the Summit Masonic Temple located at 9545 Shepard Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.
